Determining child support is a very important part of divorces. The Texas Child Support Guidelines provide for a very specific calculation involving monthly income, starting at 20% for one child. If the paying party has a duty to support other children from another relationship, the percentage will be reduced accordingly. Who will cover the children’s health insurance? Both parties must evaluate their ability to cover the child on health insurance. Typically, if the primary residential conservator provides coverage for the child, the party paying child support will reimburse the other party for the actual cost of including the child on their health insurance coverage. Parents typically split uninsured medical expenses 50/50.
